By the time Tom Katt appeared in Men Magazine in May 2002, he had added a little more muscle and — much to our pleasure — he stopped shaving his body. The few additional years suit him well, too. No conversation about muscle daddy bears is complete without mentioning Tom.

This is a young Tom Katt, who (as we’ll post in coming weeks) turns into quite the hot hairy muscle dad as he ages. We’re not certain of the publication or photo credit on this set, though. It looks like it could be from a shoot for Inches in 1993 with photo credit to Catalina, but we’ve been unable to confirm.

Ryan Block is a big favorite of ours here at WHYGCT. A Q&A with Ryan appeared in the September 1996 issue of Freshmen, with photo credit to Per Lui. Only a few of these actually appeared with that interview. The others are from Advocate MEN, March 1994 issue.


Darren Moore, sweaty.

From the beginning, Advocate Men was very inclusive of darker skinned and mixed-race men, and few were hotter than the handsome and muscular Darren Moore, who appeared in the premiere issue of June 1984. This post includes additional photos from that shoot that appeared ad teasers and various issues of Men of Advocate Men in subsequent years.

We’ve always liked the look of Studs Toro. Remarkable arms, and remarkable ass. This is from the February 1991 issue of Advocate Men, photographed by Buckshot Productions. As far as we are aware, this was Studs’ only appearance in a nude magazine.

We’re not sure what it is — the bleached blond hair with the dark features, the bulbous uncut dick, the defined muscles on a smooth lean frame … whatever the case, this striking combo works for us. Photographed by Kristen Bjorn, Wolfgang was a German musician from the band Die Schlange when he appeared in the November 1988 Advocate Men.

We started WHYGCT a month ago with hopes of making one post per day. We’re not up to speed yet, but we’re getting the (ahem) kinks worked out. We’ve spent a lot of time tweaking the design, categories and tags; we do, after all, need a solid taxonomical foundation because we have a big collection.

One model we do not have a big collection of is our namesake: Colt Thomas. But now that we kind of have our feet under us and hope to start posting regularly, we thought it appropriate to post the final set of we have of Mr. Thomas. And while the majority of our collection is Advocate/Freshmen publications, we’ve always loved Colt and we felt it was time to clean up our very old scans of his appearance in Drummer (Issue 126), lensed by legendary leather photographer Jim Wigler. Notice the cover says Colt “finally shows it” — meaning frontal nudity. You might recall he artfully obscured his family jewels during his Advocate Men sessions (posts 1 and 2 on this blog). And here, 5 years after that, we get a peek of the goods. And he’s pierced and inked now, to boot. Swoon.

And then, the story gets better. As we were putting this post together, we googled to see what the photographer was up to these days. Not many of the photographers from this era that we’ve researched have an active web presence. Not the case here — Jim Wigler’s Tumblr is a must-follow.  And it gets better — Jim has recently posted the original scans from this same photo series (!!!) in honor of the reopening of the S.F. Eagle, which is where this series was shot, circa 1991. Cue Twilight Zone music, because only a month after we start this blog, Jim posts the originals. There is some kind of freaky serendipity going on!

So enjoy our scans but PLEASE go to Jim’s Tumblr, follow him (we do now!) and savor all the Colt Thomas originals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 , 12, 13, 14, 15).

Romero Davis, outdoors.

We have really enjoyed putting together our Romero Davis collection. The image quality varies, and is overall sub-par by our standards — a lot of touching up and a few folds/creases we just decided to live with. BUT LOOK AT THIS MAN! He is one of the hottest to walk the earth, in our opinion. He was the cover man for Advocate MEN, January 1985 and some additional photos of him appeared in subsequent Men of Advocate Men and Cover Men issues. We believe a session or two with photographer Fred Bisonnes was Romero’s only serious foray into nude modeling. The GEA lists him as having appeared in one film. We’ve never sought out the film, as we are primarily photography fans here at WHYGCT. This set features Romero outdoors.
